BEHIND THE BADGE

Undersheriff Amir Jones is a seasoned police executive with over 12 years of professional experience in investigations, government, and law enforcement. He currently leads the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Unit, Bureau of Narcotics, and Tactical Response Team. He is also a Deputy overseeing Emergency Management.

Under Undersheriff Jones’ leadership, there has been an overall average 40 percent reduction in crime. In addition, under Undersheriff Jones, nearly 500 guns and assault rifles were removed from neighborhoods. He also removed illegal narcotics from the street, totaling nearly $5 million.

Undersheriff Jones began his career with the Essex County Sheriff’s Office in 2012. He has worked in the Transportation and Patrol Divisions, Bureau of Narcotics, Criminal Investigations Unit, and Fugitive Squad.

Throughout his career in law enforcement, Undersheriff Jones has demonstrated a solid commitment to community-driven, problem-oriented, and intelligence-led policing, as shown through his many awards. He has received numerous commendations and awards, including the Medal of Merit and Excellence in Police Duty Awards. He has also been honored by several community and civic organizations.

Undersheriff Jones is an active member of the Essex County Chiefs of Police Association and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives.
